ROUND 1, PHILLIP ISLAND, AUSTRALIA

It was not an easy race weekend for Team Grillini who has not obtained the desired results in the first World Superbike round.

Lap times recorded on Friday and Saturday by Jezek and Badovini ave high hopes to the team  for Race 1 and 2, but unfortunately it did not work this way.. Badovini, in trouble with the setting of the bike, crashed several times during qualifying and test and did not finish Race 2, while Jezek crossed the finish line in seventeenth position.
There have been also positive notes; speed and performance of the bike proved to be more than satisfactory, but definitely lacking a bit custom-up work of the bikes.
Andrea Grillini commented: “I am very disappointed by the results obtained in the Phillip Island round because I was really hoping to be able to do well from the first race. I am very sorry for Badovini who failed to show his real qualities and did not finish Race 2.  I am happy with Jezek who registered very good lap times during the week end. The positive note is that mechanics and riders have figured out what to work on to obtain much more competitive performance. Now we approach the second round in Thailand with little time to work on the bike but I am sure that we will give our best in the European rounds. ”

Ondrej Jezek commented: “Today’s race was unfortunately very boring for me. From the beginning it was better than yesterday, I had a good start and I wanted to follow the group of Ramos, Bradl, Savadori and others. Unfortunately I couldn’t follow them especially on the straights. Then I had to focus on the battle with Russo and Badovini. They both crashed so since that I had nothing to gain. After I went to the gravel a decided to have no risk and just finish the race. The bike seemed better than yesterday even with pushing I couldn’t improve the position.
My WorldSBK debut was not so bad anyway. I was sitting on the bike in Australia for the first time. First it seemed that I will be always last in this brutal competition but then it wasn’t like that. I did 16th fastest lap time of the week which is positive thing. But we will need more horse power and to improve the suspension a little bit to stay on good position also during the race.”
Next round then at Chung International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand on March 10-12.
