A ray of hope, Jezek scores in the second Assen race.

Sunday, in the Netherlands, proved to be the most successful day of the World Superbike season, so far, for Ondrej Jezek. After a great performance in the morning warm up he added another championship point to his tally by securing fifteenth place in the second race of the weekend, triumphing in a direct battle with Yonny Hernandez.

During Sunday’s warm up Ondra posted his fastest time of the weekend, slotting into eleventh place of the session. This was notably achieved on the harder tyre combination which was the least favourable option. The afternoon race did not go as well but for the first time this season, Ondra was able to fight directly with another rider and by coming out on top of this duel secured another world championship point .

“I pushed hard in the morning session. My time of 1: 36.4 was set with a little assistance from Chaz Davies, who I followed round. Although warm up does not change anything it did give me confidence, especially when I saw I was faster in some sections than he was. Unfortunately, I knew that this result was not the complete story, I had to work a lot with the bike and would definitely not be able to maintain the pace for the entire race duration. “
Ondra had to start the race from pit lane due to a last minute fuel pump failure during warm up. However, having qualified at the back of the grid anyway this was not such a big disadvantage..
“The start itself was not good but there was at least some luck at play. Roman Ramos attacked the others very hard and I managed to capitalise, getting through through to mid pack. As the race then developed Yonny Hernandez, unlike yesterday, was unable to find the right rhythm and I finally defeated him. It was a hard fight, but I’m glad I scored that point over him. However, I am disappointed to have lost out on fourteenth place to Alex Lowes at the last chicane”

The Guandalini team is now scheduled to move to Brno for testing. A question remains if this will happen at this time  due to the current difficult situation with engines. If not then check a replacement term for these very important tests shall be announced on Ondrej’s social networks.
The next round of the World Superbike Championship shall be held on 13th May at Italy’s Imola.
