Suzuka was not going to be an easy race and we had a lot at stake entering the season finale event as the championship standings could be shuffled very easily between 4 teams fighting for the Top 5 rankings. It’s never easy at this event because of the factory supported teams that enter this event, and our goal was to finish the race in a position that would solidify our season long effort to be in the top 5 teams of the EWC championship and at the same time be the #1 independent team.
Throughout the event we were making steady progress with extremely difficult conditions that were changing very rapidly due to the typhoon that arrived Saturday night and kept everyone guessing about the weather during the race. Everyone had their work cutout and the riders especially with the wet conditions and they did an amazing job!
The whole team did an excellent effort and we had a flawless race despite constantly changing weather, and this that allowed us to finish 14th in the race which meant we would finish the season with our goal for the 2017-2018 EWC season achieved – TOP 5 overall, #1 independent team!
I am very happy to be here in Suzuka. For me it was the first endurance race in my career and I really enjoyed it. All the Mercury Racing staff was working great. The bike remained without any problems all the weekend and I’m really happy I could help the team to keep the 5th overall place in EWC! I would like to thank especially Viktor Noss and all the team for this great experience.
Viktor Noss, Mercury Racing owner:
I would like to thank everyone on the team for an excellent effort and a great job this whole season, all of our supporters especially BMW and Bridgestone, all our families that supported us when we were away, and most of all our great fans that were there every step throughout the season!
